Chroma A223813 is equipped with high-speed graphics processing units (GPUs) and is fully compliant with the VESA DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR (Ultra High Bit Rate) audio/video standard. It achieves high-speed transmission of up to 20 Gbps using a more efficient 128b/132b encoding method. Compared to previous versions of DisplayPort 1.4 HBR3 (High Bit Rate 3), Chroma A223813 can achieve a maximum resolution of 16K, handily meeting the requirements of future display performance, and supporting up to 4 lanes of output. In addition to allowing users to set the DP 2.1 UHBR20 lane rate (10/13.5/20 Gbps), A223813 also supports lower DP 1.4 HBR3 lane rates (1.62/2.7/5.4/8.1 Gbps), covering all the requirements for today’s DisplayPort test applications.

Both DisplayPort and USB-C output interfaces support DisplayPort 2.1 with a transmission rate up to 20 Gbps per lane. With a total bandwidth of 80 Gbps on 4 lanes, combined with DSC mode, the module can achieve ultra-high definition 16K@144Hz image output. This solution caters to future high-speed image testing requirements in fields such as gaming, healthcare, and streaming.
To enhance testing efficiency and comparison, the A223813's design innovatively incorporates 2 DisplayPort and 2 USB-C output connectors, each equipped with its own independent GPU in a 2x2 configuration. The module can simultaneously and intermittently achieve full lane rates, which enables the unit to test two devices or sets of devices with different timings and pattern content, significantly improving testing efficiency. This functionality enables the user to, for example, compare the image quality, pixels, and timing of two devices simultaneously, or verify port switching functions, performance, and compatibility on the same device. For extra convenience when using the comparison function, an on-screen display (OSD) can be enabled to easily differentiate between each window's test status, allowing users to clearly understand the on-screen changes happening during the test.
A223813 supports switching between six types of DisplayPort and USB-C output. Both the DisplayPort and USB-C ports support up to 20 Gbps output. Users can switch between different interface outputs without physically disconnecting cables, reducing time of test as well as wear and tear on cables, thus enhancing overall testing efficiency.
A223813 supports independent DisplayPort and USB-C output in a 4+4 lane application. This allows for upper/lower and left/right image division on a single screen. Additionally, dual output blending can be achieved at a maximum resolution of 16K@288Hz (with DSC Mode), providing a range of versatile test applications.
Adaptive-Sync's main function is to alleviate issues such as screen latency and tearing, with one of its applications being to meet the needs of rapidly changing imagery during gaming. Gaming image frame rates often fluctuate, and Adaptive-Sync adjusts the screen's refresh rate automatically based on changes in the frames per second (FPS) of the transmitted image. This helps to reduce or eliminate issues such as lag, jitter, stuttering, and screen tearing.
A223813 comes with four Adaptive-Sync testing modes: Saw, Ramp, Square, and Arbitrary. Users can freely adjust the refresh rate between 20Hz and 560Hz to simulate different refresh rates that a display may experience during gaming. In Arbitrary mode, users can customize the frame rate and duration parameters as required by their specific test application.

MST (Multi-Stream Transport) allows for image output to multiple displays in a daisy-chain setup. This greatly simplifies the cable configuration, as the DisplayPort signal source only requires one output port. Chroma A223813 supports MST transmission for a maximum of 4 streams at a bandwidth of up to 80 Gbps.
In MST mode, the A223813 supports switching between four different devices under test (DUTs) connected to the single output port. When the user is testing multiple DUTs in MST mode, the test module can simultaneously output different Timing and Pattern configurations through four independent Streams, enabling the testing of different interface outputs.

Chroma A223813 supports VESA DSC (Display Stream Compression) version 1.2a with a maximum compression ratio of 3:1 (@8bpp). With DSC functionality, users can transmit larger amounts of data under the same bandwidth conditions. Without DSC, the DP 2.1 specification supports output up to 16K@23Hz with 4:4:4 encoding at 8 bits. When DSC is enabled, the refresh rate can be raised to 16K@144Hz at the same level of encoding and bits per color.

Panel Replay (PR) is a technology designed to reduce power consumption in DisplayPort interfaces. PR is an extension of the Panel Self Refresh (PSR) technology used for eDP panel testing. It allows for power-saving on the Source end when image signal transmission is stopped, accessing the image only through the Remote Frame Buffer (RFB) established on the Sink end for self-refresh purposes. This is especially useful for mobile devices such as laptops.

A223813 has built-in Compliance Test Patterns such as OFF / D10.2 / PRBS7 / PLTPAT / CP2520 / TPS4 to facilitate users to perform initial verification of CTS Link Training.
A223813 comes with a built-in Solid State Drive (SSD), capable of storing around 690 to 11,060 images depending on image resolution. In addition to using the pre-installed image library, users can add their own test images to meet diverse testing requirements.
The A223813 can be set to automatic, manual, or fast Training mode. It supports configuration of Lane Count, Swing Level, and Pre-Emphasis, allowing for the simulation of non-standard signal outputs to conduct tests related to the DUT's peak values.

A223813 supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) image output, including functional test items for HDR10+, HLG, and HDR10. The primary objective here is to assess factors that influence the consumer's visual experience. Users have the flexibility to adjust HDR Metadata for conducting the relevant HDR functional tests. A diverse test pattern library for bi-directional HDR testing is included, with grayscale, color bars, window patterns, and more.

A223813 supports a variety of color gamut outputs. In addition to the basic color spaces, it also supports Wide Color Gamuts such as RGB, ITU-601, ITU-709, xvYCC-601, BT.2020-YC, BT.2020-RGB, and DCI-P3 RGB. Users can set up pixel encoding formats such as YCbCr 4:4:4, 4:2:2, 4:2:0, and select color depths of 6, 8, 10, 12, or 16 bits for a wider color range to achieve natural and high-resolution image displays.
HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) prevents illegal copying of data as it is transmitted through the interface. A223813 supports HDCP versions 1.3, 2.2 and 2.3 and allows the user to freely switch between the three versions. During the testing process, results can be output directly on the screen of the DUT, enabling users to instantly view related HDCP handshaking information.
During testing, Chroma A223813 can simultaneously display relevant test results of two separate DisplayPort ports on the DUT’s screen, supported by two modes: Pattern Mode and Link Code Mode. In Pattern Mode, HDCP is automatically executed, and the results are displayed on the screen. In Link Code Mode, HDCP process steps are executed one at a time. If the handshake process fails, users can intuitively assess the issues and potential causes.
DPCD (DisplayPort Configuration Data) acts as the main communication channel between the source and sink of the DisplayPort interface.
A223813 features quick pattern detection that can read and interpret the contents of the DPCD registers within the source device. This includes information such as the supported DPCD versions, maximum lane rates, maximum lane count, and DSC support specifications. This information is displayed on the DUT's screen, allowing users to quickly assess its capabilities and the results of link training.
FEC (Forward Error Correction) is a technique used in one-way communication systems to control transmission errors. It involves sending additional data along with the original data to enable error recovery and reduce bit error rates. A223813 supports FEC for packet transmission, which helps prevent data loss or corruption during transmission. It can automatically correct and repair data.
The A223813 has 8 built-in independent audio test signal generators (FL/FR/RL/RR/FC/LFE/RLC/RRC), each of which has an on/off switch for volume, tone, tone frequency, sample rate, sample bit, and sweep signal, providing as many as 48 different test combinations.
The module features a built-in FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) that supports an ultra-fast 16K graphics processing unit, enabling rapid processing of large amounts of image data. This significantly enhances graphics and data transfer speed, with image switching times as fast as 200 ms at a 16K resolution, ensuring efficient data retrieval from the built-in Solid State Drive (SSD). This improves testing efficiency and covers product testing at various resolutions, ultimately saving production costs.
Unique high-frequency processing technology utilizes microstrip lines to ensure impedance matching for signal transmission and reduce inter/intra skew errors to ensure consistency among the various output ports.
The included VPG Master software offers DSC image format compression functionality, supporting the loading of external test image files (bmp, jpg, tiff) for storage of up to 100 images. Users can customize image resolution, refresh rate, color space, horizontal or vertical cropping, and compression ratio. They can also mark the images with text strings of up to 31 characters with customizable fonts, sizes, colors, and positions. These customized settings can be directly downloaded to the Chroma 2238, making it easier for users to identify whether DSC (Display Stream Compression) has been activated or deactivated.
The built-in programming function can be used to set up any combination of Timing, Pattern, and Audio required by the DUT. Up to 2000 sequences and 5000 images can be stored, and users can add their own test patterns to meet a great variety of testing needs.
The built-in resolution test chart can accurately indicate the correct scale according to different Timings. In addition to geometric shapes and aspect ratio tests (4:3, 16:9), other composite test patterns such as Color Bar and Grayscale are also included. With these test patterns, users can easily determine the display's imaging quality, which is especially useful for R&D, production and QA purposes.
